  1. I got my start in NYC working for the Gagosian gallery. I've been to LA a few times, but I like NYC best.
  2. It depends what you want to do. If you are looking for a career in contemporary fine art, then the previous answer is correct. The gallery she mentioned is a highly regarded art gallery in NYC's art district "Chelsea" However if you are interested in becoming a commercial photographer NYC/LA are highly competitive and you will need to take several classes and learn both the basics of the business and the camera before starting a career.
  3. I don't think it really matters. You could start in big cities like Chicago, Toronto, or Mexico City; youthful hip cities like Portland, Montreal, Austin, Charlotte, and (potentially) Pittsburgh; great business centers like Seattle, Atlanta, and Calgary; regular cities that don't pop out at you when you think photography centre like Topeka, Omaha, Winnipeg, Cincinnati, Raleigh, or Salt Lake City; or deeply traditional/conservative areas like San Antonio, Mobile, and Tallahassee but it doesn't matter. As long as you have amenities to become a photographer and you like where you live then it doesn't matter.
