Can I file an insurance claim after a policy expires for an event that occured during the policy period?
I had a theft and fraud loss during the construction of our home while under a Builder's Risk policy. (I was the owner/builder named on the policy). That policy has been replaced with a traditional homeowners policy now. Can I go back and file a claim against the Risk policy for property and $$ reported stolen during the term of the policy but never recovered? The police reports were made when the Risk policy was in effect.

- Yes but there is a time limit on that as well. Every policy is diferent, then the laws are diferent everywhere. But the fundimentals are the same everywhere. File the claim as soon as possible You will need to answer this question. Why did it take this long to file this claim? An honest answer is all that is required. " I was buisy with the construction of the house, had other priorities, now that the house is finished, I am addressing the loss issues." Is a resonable answer. Good luck Doug
- You can file, I don't think they will be very cooperative. Good luck.
- Absolutly
- you can, there is usually a time period but i believe it's a year or two after the policy period. ck the policy or ck with your state insurance commissioner's office
- You have a certain time period within which to make a claim. It's doubtful if a policy has expired that the insurance co. would honor a claim, but it's worth giving them a call.
